My Thoughts On Ultimate Warrior’s Return To Wrestling

It has been almost 10 years since the professional wrestler known as The Ultimate Warrior has wrested a match and on June 25th of this year the seemingly impossible will happen as Warrior makes his return to in ring action.

Ever since the epic announcement was made speculation has been running rampant. Why is he returning now? Is it for the money? Why return to a lesser-known Italian wrestling promotion rather then WWE? Why not go to TNA? Is this start of another run? Or is this just a one-time deal?

Warrior himself has touched on some of the questions in a video on his official Youtube page. While not giving a definitive answer, he eluded to his reasoning for the return being something much deeper then money. In that same video he also invited fans to follow his journey at www.ultimatewarroirtv.com, a site that will feature coverage of Warrior’s training for the big return.

I can easily understand why the announcement of Warrior’s return has sparked so much interest. Warrior’s persona holds an iconic status that is arguably on par with the likes of Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair. He is a professional wrestler that has transcended the sport and jumped into the realm of pop icon.

Sure his professional and person life have not been without their share of controversy. Like in August of 1991 when he was fired by the WWF for allegedly demanding more money or threatening to no show at a major PPV event. Or more recently when at a motivational speaking event he uttered the now infamous line “queering doesn’t make the world work.” Those are but a few instances that paint a negative picture of the man behind Warrior.

But at the end of the day you may disagree with his personal views yet you can’t deny the passion he puts into the Ultimate Warrior persona. Many my bash his work ethic or even the way he carries himself as a person, but the simple fact is that in The Ultimate Warrior, he has developed a charismatic force that is unlike anything else in the history of sports entertainment.

I am proud to say that I count myself among the millions of fans around the world that will be riding nostalgia high as they see their childhood hero run down the isle once again.
