Loeb/Sale Duo to Return to Marvel for Captain America: White

Wizard World Los Angeles has brought its fair share of surprises already, not the least of which came this Friday, March 14th,  Joeph Loeb was able to confirm that he would be teaming up with Tim Sale once again for Captain America: White, and that Captain America, Bucky, and Nick Fury would be reunited again on shelves nationwide.

Ever since 2004's Hulk: Grey, fans of Loeb and Sale have wondered when the next installment of the "Marvel color franchise" would be created; many fans doubted it would be continued, as Tim Sale finds himself amidst an exclusive deal with DC comics, but the duo that brought comic fans Batman: The Long Halloween, Batman: Dark Victory and Superman for All Seasons as well as Spider-Man: Blue, Daredevil: Yellow, and Hulk: Grey will be teaming up once again to continue the series, which has generally taken place outside of present continuity.

As for the setting?

"It's no secret that the story plays in 1941," said Loeb. "It's Cap and Bucky and a lot of Nazi bastards and Sgt. Fury and the Howling Commandos—all of them."

"That's one of our favorite points in Cap's career" said Sale.

And the color?

"just as yellow meant the costume and the cowardice, blue was the costume and the feeling of loss and gray was his skin tone and in-between a world of black and white there is always gray, white will have a double meaning as well" explained Loeb.

Given the character, time, series and the color, many are speculating the series will deal with questions of purity and innocence, and perhaps its loss.

“He stands for what is best about the United States,” said Sale. “In our story, he’s a pure of heart recruit in his early twenties who’s learning more about the ways of the world as he goes along.”

Expect Captain America: White to hit comic stores near you sometime in the next few months.
